Things You Should Avoid in Website Design
There are a few website design ‘don’ts’ that a webmaster or designer should take very seriously. These little things that can cause big problems need to be avoided when planning your website design in London.
Do not distract your visitors with elements like blinking or scrolling text, too much animation, and auto-loading sounds. Most of the time people browse the Web for quick information, so what they would need first and foremost from your website is the same thing. Don’t put too many scrolling texts they can’t read at their own pace. Don’t put too much animation or sound that may distract them from the actual web content. And don’t put too many clicks between your visitors and what they’re after.
Do not use pop up windows. You know very well how annoying pop up windows are, but when you become the webmaster and you appreciate how pop ups can help make money for your site, you do a complete 180 and use them anyway. What’s up with that? Always try to put yourself in your visitor’s shoes. Will you be delighted in any way when pop up windows keep distracting you over and over? Will you stay in a website that bombards you with pop up windows?
Don’t use image backgrounds. One: they’re too amateur. Two: They’re user hostile, infrequent net users and internet savvy people alike will not appreciate them in a site that they need something from. Three: they take up too much time to load. Most people will wait only as much as five seconds for a website to load before getting bored waiting and browsing somewhere else.
Do these website design ‘don’ts’ have something in common? You guessed it. Designers often make these mistakes because they’re thinking about what it can do for them and not their visitors. So learn this lesson early: design not for yourself, but for your visitors.
